Spiced tomato and celery juice

Salt, acid and heat in a glass, which is exactly what the first two weeks of this way of eating ask for — and it is savory, which almost nothing else in this section is.

  • Worcestershire saucea few drops

Method

6 steps · 10 minutes

  1. Check the tomato juice label. Most brands add sugar, and the ones that do not say so on the front.
  2. Blend a third of the celery into the juice and keep the rest for stirring sticks.
  3. Stir in the horseradish, lemon, hot sauce and Worcestershire rather than blending them. Blended, the horseradish goes flat within a minute.
  4. Roll the glass rim in celery salt if you want it to feel like a drink rather than a health measure.
  5. Over ice, with a hard grind of pepper and a celery stick standing in it.
  6. Make it in a pitcher and it holds two days, though the horseradish fades and wants topping up.
